“Wakandanian” Style

Disney Indonesia collaborates with Indonesian labels and fashion designers who are inspired by the story of Marvel Studios’ Black Panther. The story follows T’Challa, after the death of his father, the king of Wakanda, he went back to his isolated but high technology country in Africa to take his rightful place as king. The brands that participate in this collaboration include POPULO, Matahari Department Stores, JD.ID, Monstore, Shop at Velvet and Canvas Living. The collection is designed for young adults and Disney hopes it will engage Black Panther experience in fans’ everyday life. “We are happy to visualize the sense of intensity of Black Panther characters into a batik design. As all of us could see that Black Panther character personalities are assertive and sharp-witted, as well as compassionate and protective leader at the same time. Visually the movie is a perfect inspirational idea for our batik design. On the other hand, Black Panther personalities might aspire us to explore with non-contrast Batik pattern based on our own motif called Gunungan, which represents strength and natural protection, a long-existing idea that quite common in Indonesia.” says Dimas Wicaksono, General Manager of Populo Batik. Marvel fans will be able to shop Black Panther collection on the designer’s individual official websites, stores and social media. Fans can buy Black Panther official collections from Matahari in www.mataharimall.com and across its stores in Indonesia and JD.ID starting February 2018.
